Yorkshire Dales’ Birds

Poems written for textile artist Karen Griffiths. The poems are essentially descriptive, trying to summon aspects of the nature of each species – their habitat, behaviour, colours, songs. There is something hermetic about birds. They inhabit another world to us, and yet our own world would be unthinkable without them. They are hidden messengers. They are as much a component of the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales as the hills, the dales and the becks.
